There have been lots of threads in this forum about the Scanalert value proposition (or lack thereof).

Well, if you are a subscriber, watch out - come renewal time, you won't get a call or email - just a nice fat charge on your credit card!

When I called customer service to have the charge reversed, they said that I must first speak with a "customer retention representative". I said no thanks, I just want a refund - no dice - now i have been playing phone tag with a "retention" person - 1 more day and I am calling amex to dispute the charge....

This kind of sleazy renewal policy certainly doesn't reflect well on the company....

Wow, they are a little dodgy aren't they. They certainly do not have a problem cold calling you when they want to sell their service.

I still can't understand why people are paying $1900 to put the word "hacker" on a website.

I have a competitor who uses them, I just clicked on the little logo:

"This site is tested and certified daily to pass the FBI/SANS Internet Security Test. The "live" HACKER SAFE mark appears only when a web site's security meets the highest security scanning standards of the U.S. government, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB."

I thought this was a curious statement "highest security scanning standards of the U.S. government". What the heck is a "security scanning standard"? Sounds made up.

There are two scans - one to make sure you are PCI compliant and the other to say you are safe.

If you need one - get one that says you are PCI compliant. They are going to be pretty much the same thing. The one that says you are PCI compliant basically has the guidelines from Visa / MasterCard (which most already do) but Visa / MasterCard / Discover have approved them to do scans.

They use some sort of scanning but in reality it isn't correct or worth the money. They had me with some sort of issue and when I called them about it and explained my site didn't even use this type of program they said it was a mistake. I cancelled it then and I had my card replaced to keep this charge from happening.

yeesh. I remember that they had tried to contact me before my ecommerce site even went live. $1600 a year for a little logo stating that the site was 'hacker-safe'. Wouldn't that just entice hackers even more?

The rep also stated that it could increase sale conversions by 5%. I think that he was off by a decimal point ;)

>>>>increase sale conversions by 5%

Really, when they pitch me they promise a lot more than that.

Just add a section to website similiar to testimonials.

Call it safe shopping.

Instead of testimonials, replace with statements from hackers.

Johnny from Arizona writes:
Hack it? I couldn't even navigate the site.

Boris from Germany writes:
Why would I want to waste my time hacking this site.
I have bigger fish to fry

Sid from Joilet Illinois writes:
I tried to hack the site and look where it got me.

just a little update for youe fellow e-commers...

finally reached my 'customer retention specialist' - was apologized to and assured a prompt credit - that was alomost a week ago and no credit yet

do you think it will take a second threat to charge back in order to get my credit processed?

these guys are way more ethically challenged than your average spammer or black hat!

Sorry to keep dragging you guys through this but...

Finally got my credit but it was for $162.50 less than they had charged me.

What a surprise - Getting ready to call again - This will have taken 3 chargeback threats to resolve....

Why are you wasting so much time with this?

Call AMEX and complain, get a credit, and move on.
