restricted login and payment

My client needs two things.

1.) A system to allow users to register and pay for a subscription his site.

2.) To allow access soley to registered/payed visitors.

I know that there is more than one way to do this. I would like to hear several ideas from people so that I may present different options. I do not yet know the platform the user is running but I am assuming it is LAMPP. Also, the easier the better.

Are you looking for a system or an ecommerce solution? There is Paypal and then depending on where the merchant is, they can consider an electronic payment gateway and a merchant account

Not sure if this will help but this is what i'd do:

- place the subscription as a product in the shoppng cart (you could use product options for different subsciption lengths)
- include the unique login with the payment receipt
- set the subscription content at a higher login level (again, you could do this using product/cart)
