We sell a customized product (Average order about $100). We get a shopping cart abandonment rate of about 80% Which seems pretty high. How does this figure compare to others? - Thanks in advance for replies

doesnt sound too high, although you should always be trying to improve it regardless of if its 80% or 8%.

We get about 50% abandonement on a low priced, impulse buy item. At the cost you mention and the fact that its a customized, unique product, 80% doesnt sound extreme. If you capture emails at the cart, maybe send them a 10% off coupon if they leave. We used to do that and it worked very well (our new cart doesnt capture emails util the order is placed, so we cannot do that anymore :( )

I think a lot depends on how your custimization is working. If they have to add the item to the cart with all the options they want selected in order to see the final price, I would expect a lot of abandonments from people checking prices.

Thanks for the replies so far. We show them the total beforehand and our shipping is $9.95 regardless of order size so I am not sure they are just price shopping.

What I would REALLY like to know is others abandonment (this time I spelled it right) rates to compare with. So PLEASE, PLEASE share with me your rates!

Thanks, Rick
