Does Google offer a credit card processing service?

A few weeks ago someone told me about a new service Google is starting. They said that Google plans to offer a new credit card processing service. So, instead of using your bank to process your customers' credit cards, you would use Google's service instead. Supposedly you will also earn credit for Adwords by using this service. Has anyone else heard about this?

Thanks for the responses guys, but I have heard of Google Checkout, however, Google Checkout seems to be like Paypal, which is the opposite of what I am talking about. Am I missing something here?

Does anyone know if Google Checkout is in fact a service that would allow me to process my customer's credit cards and earn me credit towards Adwords campaigns?

Have you in fact already read the Google FAQs?

Google Checkout is a fourth party provider, like PayPal. This means it will have the same problems as PayPal. Why go to the bother of setting up something which you will have to change later anyway?

Solution: Get your own merchant account directly with a bank.

PayPal now offers Payments Pro, which is comparable to a "real merchant account". It also has the added bonus of being able to allow people to pay with paypal. It's the best of both worlds.
