Easiest Supported Ecommerce Package

as opposed to Open Source packages.

How many of you use ecommerce packages that you purchased and that come with support as opposed to stuff like OSCommerce and Zen?

I would like to find an easy to install package which comes with support and a simple administration area that clients don't need an IT degree to use. I would be happy to pay for this.

count me in also. I hate to be a "me too" newbie but this is very unfamiliar territory, the packages are costly, and it's hard to know which reviews are unbiased.

How much would pay for a reasonable looking shopping cart system?

How much would my client pay is the question but I would be happy to pay up to about $500 on their behalf :)

I was looking for a major one and I know there are four major players in the UK at this. (The biggest being £5000 / month (rip off to me).

Why don't you just go with OSc? The contributions cover a lot and you can end up with a really good package...

We lease Shopsite by the month which includes upgrades and maintenance. That's the way to go if you're going to be doing any volume and you don't have an IT degree.

In our industry most of the atrocious looking sites are OSC. Free cart and low priced design/grapics I guess.

Especially getting going, paid support is a bargain.

Shopsite current prices are $495 set up and at least $35 per month. That's at least $915 for the first year!

It doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

That's at least $915 for the first year!

We use the Pro version so it's more costly than that.

Our previous cart was a bit cheaper. But the company virtually went out of business around 2002 and never upgraded it afterward. I could count on some cart downtime about three times a year. Once it was down during our peak season for about a week!

Phone help (and eventually email assistence) could take days. That company eventually pulled the plug on the online bulletin board because it contained nothing but complaints about the aging cart and the awful support.

Shopsite by comparison is a bargain.

BTW, you only pay for set up once and there may be specials offered on it occasionally. I don't recall.

One more thing, the Shopsite lease includes upgrades forever.

I suppose the perception of value is dependent on your turnover. You are using shopsite for your own business and it suits you since your turnover justifies its cost.

It's not something that I could sell on as a package to new clients who don't even know if they will see any turnover. What I was really looking for was a plug in application that is easy to install, has a simple UI and good support.

I've learnt that sometimes you just have to pay for the above, but I understand the client thing!

ecommercetemplates - Inexpensive, versatile, good features and terrific support.

Use them all the time (the generic template is easy to slot into any custom design) and yesterday it took me about 20-30 minutes to teach a client who had never had a website before, let alone a store, how to use the admin CP.

You do need to buy a few addons to help them with images, but otherwise it works out of the box.

I can recommend many carts for differnet reasons but if you want, easy to use, some support, preset templates then I also say ecommercetemplates.

cheers.

I will 3rd ecommercetemplates. The generic template is a piece of cake to integrate into any web site. And, the code is well written and very simple to make mods if you are so inclined.

In addition to what you all have said, which one best provides item pictures which update when the user changes a selection such as item color? Say if you are changing the color of a sweater and want the picture to reflect the new color?
