I have heard nothing but bad things about using paypal as your merchant provider and I was just wondering if there are any other companies out there that do not require a start up fee?

Actually paypal is not a merchant provider it is a processor that anybody can use and not a merchant account.

If I would to use paypal it would only be for a secoundary provider but I use Google Checkout as my secondary and like it much much more.

If you have a merchant account then you have pretty much paid most of the expense. Credit card processing centers will have a small set up fee for you but I would make sure your cart is able to use the processor you select.

Best place to start is at the cart find out the companies the cart can use and call. Most charge from 50-200 bucks set up fee.

Maybe it's just that satisfied customers are not so vocal, they're unlikely to set up a paypalrocks.com, are they?

We've been using them for years, pretty much hassle free

I'm with etc. We've used PayPal Website Payments Pro, and we're in the USA. We like the low monthly fee, the flat discount rate, and no problems.

They now accept credit cards in six major currencies, and have added Switch/Solo support for shoppers using GBP.

Highly recommended.

Ok thanks, do you happen to know if there is a maximum that we can process per month? We will be processing roughly $100,000 per month would this be any problem for a new user?

I guess that would be a potential problem. Since you're really obtaining a "loan" for that amount of money, being "new to them" would be a roadblock. It's only your money after the transaction is complete, including the buyer's time period where they may have a right to a refund.

PayPal's concern would be booking that amount of business, only to see a company disappear with the cash, and all the customers demanding their money back.

You may want to call them directly with that question. They could tell you the limits.

If you are in the United States, anything over $30,000 a month will require financial since you are wanting to pretty much borrow $600,000 (if you are wanting to do $100,000 a month).

More information on this post about what the provider looks for etc: [webmasterworld.com...]
