Toe in the water: PayPal?

I'm mulling over the idea of selling a product on my site that would be of use to the majority of my visitors.

Before I take the plunge, though, I'm thinking that the best route to take might be: order 50 to 100 units from the manufacturer; put up the banner ads on my site; and use PayPal.

I understand that using PayPal would make the transaction look a bit less than professional, but I can't justify spending the money for a full secure section for the site just for testing this idea.

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions from those with more ecommerce experience.

If you do decide to sell this through PayPal, it's a good idea to let the customers know in advance that PayPal will process the payment. You should also let them know that they'll have the option to pay by credit card without creating a PayPal account. There's an online logo center on the PayPal site with some graphics (including credit card logos) to help you display the available payment methods to your customers.

I started my site with a PayPal shopping cart. As soon as I was making 3 or 4 sales a day though, it was time to move on to something more robust.

I agree with the posts above: test the water with Paypal, but as soon as you can forecast monthly revenue go for something with less harassment and more transperancy - something that will give you buyer ownership.
