AVS = S (issuing bank does not support AVS)

is this an indication of fraud?

Hi, I received a domestic order (United States to United States) and AVS came up as S. S for us means the issuing bank does not support AVS. Should I be concerned? I am definitely suspicious if an international order has AVS = N or a domestic order has AVS = S. Your thoughts?

This happens every so often. It could possibly be a parameter was not passed.

For example - let;s say you use LinkPoint, Authorizenet.com, or Payflow. Normally, most of these gateways use First Data as their transaction processor. And then First Data routes accordingly - although sometimes first data approves the transaction because of the relationship with the issuing bank. If they pass that though to visanet and then visanet passes it back, a parameter might have been lost because it is the internet we are talking about. There are problems from time to time.

For example, Wal-Mart relies heavily on First Data but they also will send debit transactions to direct to the issuing bank. Both require the same parameters, however, Wal-Mart will not send one parameter to First Data which causes a problem with the transaction.

You can always call the issuing bank and verify the informtion. I posted the numbers on this forum awhile back (sorry I am waiting for my HD to be returned to me after a crash
