Too many payment methods?

How many is too many?

Hi,

With the advent of Google cart, will offering too many payment methods confuse the end user? Keep the check out process as simple as possible is surely a good thing so should I just offer one credit card payment processor or multiple? Has anyone any experiences of a switch in tactic either way? I suspect multiple processors simply spreads customers across different methods.

Cheers

I would think PayPal would be a good second option as they do have quite a few members that prefer easy checkout.

One day I'm sure soon Google Checkout will have a rather large membership and can also be a great alternative for Google shoppers that want an easy checkout.

All the other third parties such as CCNOW, Alertpay don't really have quite a large enough membership yet to offer them.

Some of the larger companies might have multiple gateways but you do want to keep it simple - especially during the check out process.

I suggest having one main real time payment processor for the credit cards, then having the additional methods such as PayPal and Google Checkout. More payment options within reason is not a bad thing. It will also keep your expenses a bit lower and less headache reconciling your banking over having multiple main credit card processing gateways / Internet Merchant Accounts.
