Shopsite Vs. OSCommerce

Is it worth it to stick with Shopsite?

I work for a musician who sells his CDs, tshirts and the like on his website using Shopsite, which is provided by their host. The credit cards are processed manually by the small company that handles his in-concert sales. But we need to switch hosts as our current one doesn't provide the other extras that we need at a cost we can afford.

We've found several hosts that offer OScommerce for 1/10 of the price we're currently paying for Shopsite. Is Shopsite that much better than OScommerce that it's worth an extra $1600 a year for a small store with less than 30 products?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use oscommerce myself, and while initially it is a pain to learn and setup in the long run its great. You can customize anything you want. And it can be hosted nearly anywhere...plus you dont have to pay for it being open source...
Ive never used shopsite so i cant say if it is better or worse.
however 1600 a year seems like quite a bill :/

I've set up many osCommerce sites. It's great! Even if you have to pay someone to customize it for you, it will cost much less than Shopsite.

I love competing with OS Commerce sites. They're never to be found in Search Engines.

Shopsite is a great product which is constantly being enhanced. Lots of hand holding. Plenty of third party add- ons such as the Stone Edge Order Processor. The more basic versions of Shopsite are much less than $1600 per year. Visit their site.

I would stick with Shopsite especially if he already is set up with it, but it depends on how much volume he expects to do down the road.

I love competing with OS Commerce sites. They're never to be found in Search Engines.

There are simple steps you can take to improve osCommerce site's SE rankings. I have one store w/ over 4,000 products. My site is #1 (google) for over 2,000 of them.

osCommerce has over 3,000 FREE contributions.

I don't know much about ShopSite so I can't offer an opinion on working with it.
