Free Shipping Offer on Orders Over X Amount

Hello all,

My website is offering free shipping on orders over $250. We have a problem in that many of our items are long, which incurs fairly significant dim weight charges from our carrier.

I am considering implementing a 'Dimensional Weight Surcharge' but would like to see what other e-commerce companies are doing to avoid doing this.

Offer a discount on the shipping. Don't make it free and then add a surcharge to it.
