Is xcart slow compared to osCommerce?

Hi,

Thanks to everyones help on this forum I am planning on having xcart integrated into my current site thats using oscommerce.

The only negative I have read about xcart is that it's slow when a user is trying to browse the site.

Is this true?

For SEO purposes... it appears xcart has a static page function or additional plugins to make dynamic pages SE friendly.

Not sure if I should just stick to static pages in xcart for the time being since have 6 items to sell at the moment on my store.

I also found a good plugin for printing fedex labels directly from xcart.

The thing is I have also found these plugins for oscommerce and they are free. I have also found creloaded which is supposed to be oscommerce with a bunch of additional plugins already installed.

I certainly don't mind paying for xcart and its plugins if they are superior to oscommerce/creloaded.

Just wanted to see if anyone has used all these items in both xcart and oscommerce/creload before I take the plunge.

Thanks for any tips you can provide.

X-Cart is no slower than osCommerce IMHO. It would help to use a PHP accelerator if you have one available or can install one. The downside of plugins for ANY cart is that they are often unregulated or have no guidelines for the plugin developers to follow. So you take your chances with the plugins.

Using the X-Cart export feature is nice but the URLs get to be a bit cumbersome. The URL for the static pages is built from the variables passed on the URL as well as the product title. So if the URL read something like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/home.php?c=2&p=12

The export routine would turn it into something like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/the-actual-product-name-c-2-p-12.html

osCommerce is really bloated, can't imagine anything being slower than that.

Not sure why you would say that. My oscommerce site is running very fast and I'm on dialup.

I've worked in X-cart for my neighbor (webmaster), and the only problem I have had is, as the catalog grows in the number of products (thousands upon thousands), it slows down for me (when uploading products).

I know of folks who have thousands of products in Oscommerce and their site runs just fine.
