Hi could anyone please tell us what solution is best if we want to sell a number of PDF files online? As of now we have a PayPal buy now button in place but we think most of our users don't have a PayPal account so we want to accept credit cards as well. What is the best solution (we have two PHP and Java programmers who can implement a store).
Thanks in advance

I recommend ClickBank to sell your digital information products because ClickBank customers can pay by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Eurocard, Bravo, Diners Club, Carte Blanche, JCB, online checks, and PayPal.

If you're using a Premier or Business account, you probably already have PayPal's Account Optional checkout for accepting credit card payments from your customers. If they are confused and think they need to create a PayPal account, you may be able to alleviate that by telling them about the Account Optional checkout before they click on the Buy Now button. For example, "Click on the button to pay through PayPal's secure checkout. You can pay using your credit card without creating an account."

Thanks for the PayPal Optional Checkout info, this looks quite interesting. In addition, can you also tell me how to implement a system that allows to accept credit card payment through our own domain. I mean, when we use PayPal or any other third party provider the user is referred to another site. We want the user to stay on our site during the purchase process though.
Any ideas?

If you have a US Business account, you can apply for Website Payments Pro. It includes the Direct Payment API for integrating credit card processing directly into your own website. However, if you do use Direct Payment, you are also required to offer Express Checkout for those customers who choose to log in to a PayPal account to pay. Those customers would be transferred to the PayPal website to log in, and then transferred back to your website to complete the payment. (You can give them the opportunity to modify & finalize the order details on your website before processing the payment.)
