British Telecom's Trader Pack

No search engines and no buyers will ever find my site

Has anybody out there got any feedback on British Telecom’s (BT) Internet Trader Pack (ITP)?

This is a derivative of the ePages eCommerce shopping software.

Having spent a few months building a site for a client using ITP, it has become obvious that no search engines will ever index the site and no buyers will ever find it.

BT runs over 1,000 sites from their own generic URL (btowstore) so every store has a URL like (this is not a real URL): http://www.btowstore.com/epages/Store.sf/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Store.Mydomain

BT will not allow store owners to have their own domain URL but say that search engines will still find and index the sites ….. mmmm

Are all these BT customers being legged-over? Have you wasted weeks building a site nobody will ever find?

Your input would be much appreciated.

Note: No base URL, no access to the <head> , no way to upload a sitemap, … no visit from Google

Buy your own domain and and have it pointed at the Bt URL, so you dont look so child like when promoting it.

You may well have trouble being spidered although id have thought its only a slim chance.

Thanks Essex Boy ... I set up a gateway for a while from my own domain which was pretty pointless ...

BT suggested frame-forwarding .... search engines simply cached a blank page and didn't go any further.

I've moved the site to a new provider and am getting great results. I just wanted to know if anybody else had suffered from BT's mis-selling.

Essex Boy ... Sorry, after 20 years in gaphic design and web management, the "child like" comment does rub up the wrong way a bit ...

Simply .... I'm really very iterested to know if anybody out there has experience of ePages and BT's Internet Trader Pack.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

What I meant was - looks far more professional when promoting the URL, after all which is easier to remember yourdomain.com or the BT URl?

Which one would you prefer to buy from?
