Can anyone swap experiences of 2Checkout v Paypal with regard to costs and also volume of sales received on one versus the other. I have heard that people are more likely to use 2CO?

The consumer might be more liekly to use 2CO because they might not be a member of Paypal.

I usually suggest to people to use a MAP and set up Paypal together.

PayPal has changed hasn't it? Your prospective buyer no longer needs to be a member, or sign up - they can just use their credit card, as they would at 2CO.

I am in the UK. I don't think this no sign-up service is available here?

That is correct - currently the no sign up feature is only available to United States merchants who have the proper paypal account. And plus a lot of consumers still do not know that about Paypal to this day.

In all my years selling on the net I have never taken PP for a website sale, despite the option, always merchant account.

Depending on your area I still believe PP is an
"Ebay thing"

On a side note 3 people have independently told me this week they will no longer use PP because of the phishing emails etc!

In my business, subscription sites, we are getting about 20% of our net revenue from PP versus 70% from our merchant(like) account. Just so you know.

I personally have the opinion that unless it takes too many resources to service, I want to have every payment option my user might want to use. We dropped checks by mail years back because it was too much work, but we still have 1-800 number, online check, pp and plain ol credit cards.

I am considering 2checkout, but am afraid of usability clutter on the payment page. That page is so delicate that it makes me uneasy thinking about changing it.

Regardig PayPal for non subscribers in US.
If I use PayPal to accept credit cards from non paypal members, is there anything in the process that identifies that I use paypal? If I don't take Paypal member payments (Just the credit card through paypal) will the customer know I am using Paypal?

Yes because they will still be directed over to Paypal's secure webpage to capture the data

I a working on different projects, one of them is considering the free cart that paypal offers for business accounts. It's really simple, links from an HTML page send acct name, product ID, and price to a paypal script. But it's obvious that you have moved to a separate cart. The URL changes, there is esentially no style or formatting to the page other than the order info, etc. (maybe frames could add some store identitiy around the cart).

A second project is considering PayPal as their merchant account and gateway (They will maintain a database and store front etc) but they do not want it to apear that you have left the site to finish the order.

I have not worked with PayPal (never even purchased with it), so I am not familiar with the details.
Are you saying that any order processing through PayPal is going to move conspicuously over to their site?

Do you know anybody doing this I could look at?

Thanks

Yes - it goes over to Paypal's secure website because you are using Paypal's merchant account or Paypal to accept payment.

Just go to Paypal's website - they advertise the shops that use Paypal. And you can add something to one of those carts & choose Paypal. You will be directed over to Paypal's secure website to make payment

Don't know when the no sign up service will be introduced but it will surely become the frausters haven - perfect for stolen cards.

Welcome to chargeback city!

It's already in use the USA. Have there been problems there?

I know a seller who recently took payment from someone in the US (non registered) later turned out to be a stolen card, the chargeback came in so he lost the item and over £100.
His account was then frozen by PP for suspected money laundering using the stolen card! No advance notice nothing but a canned email.

I really am amazed that professionals actually rely on something like PP to run their business. I accept it is a god send for part time sellers etc but for people who's livelihood depends on taking cards .....

I also cannot believe that people leave anything but a nominal sum in their PP accounts. People have had their accounts frozen with in excess of $20k in them!
Some people think they are an online bank but they are not and are not governed by banking regulations - you have no theoretical protection except through a potential court case.
