I'm trying to drum up some new business by finding relevant websites and e-mailing their owners, but I'd like to streamline this by using e-mail marketing software. Does anyone know of any popular open source software that would allow me to send e-mails with dynamic content, which I can also do tracking on?

Google either Dada or Mojo mail. Have used it on a couple of sites.

Death to spammers!
Who ever takes notice of junk such as this?

I don't really see it as spam. spam is when you indescriminently inundate people with e-mail to generate quick profit. I dislike spam just as much as the next person, but if it's a communication that is relevant to my business, I want to receive it.

Yeah, they all think that their junk mail is relevant.
I receive over 200 emails a day, of which perhaps 8-10 are wanted. I use Mailwasher to automatically dump the rest.

I would never, ever, buy anything offered to me in unsolicited emails, but I realise that some idiots do just that. They are easy prey for the con men. To me, spam = scam. No reputable business would use bulk email.

The sooner that some method is found to block junk email at source the better.

i think topica has what you're looking for but this is quite expensive ($600/year)

google for 'campaign monitor' web-based e-mail marketing solution - fabulous!
Also, Open Source 'Sugar CRM' now has (I'm advised) got organised and got an HTML marketing e-mail ability.

To PhillipM.... wow, you need to chill out man. Always remember that because you don't like something, doesn't mean that everyone in the USA doesn't like it. Actually some people enjoy receiving email that is pertinent to their interests....that's why there are so many Fourums and Blogs on the internet.
Secondly, I find it hard to believe that you receive 200 junk emails a day... let me see here, that would equal 6,000 per month and 72,000 per year! I operate 9 email accounts that are not hidden in any way and only receive about 500 a month.
You might want to look into changing you email address!

Why? I receive about that many each day. Getting rid of them would be a nightmare if I didn't automate the process somehow.

Re: email marketing software
While I don't like getting email I don't want I understand the need/desire to offer it from a marketer's point of view. There are people who do want to receive notices of deals, upgrades, support issues, close-outs, etc. It's a very fine line between spam and useful email. It all depends upon the recipient - did they want it or not?

As for the original question. The open source projects for email that I've seen have been very lacking in their abilities or have been targeted by the various tools used to block spam because they've been used to abuse people. (Beginning spammers like to use free tools too!) I'd suggest finding a commercial solution.
