Can anyone tell me the most reliable and economical way to transer small sums of money from my client in China to my bank account in the Netherlands?

Is it possible to do this in China with PayPal?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have used western union to send money to China although this can be expensive for small sums, in end I post my money directly to China in cash in a jiffy bag.

Ive never had any problems and the mail arrives in double quick time.

When you say small, how small?

Thank you both for your responses.

Actually, the issue is about transferring sums FROM China to Netherlands, not the other way around.
Thus I need to know what possibilities are available in China.

The sum involved would be up to $500, not more.

If you have a credit / debit card I hope this [ikobo.com...] system is good for you.

PS: I have not tried them.

My only customer in China has a Marketing Office in New York, so they send me checks drawn on the New York branch of their Chines Bank. Those I bring to my Spanish Bank. It takes about 3 weeks to clear them and they charge me 7 Euros (had to change banks though, my former bank charged 38 Euros).

One thing you may want to look into is a regular bank transfer (SWIFT) even though it can be painful - I have seen deductions from the issuing banks anywhere between 0 and 90 USD (non Euro countries).

Western Union is no option in my opinion (extremely high fees and if you are in bad luck the office you go to to get your cash doesnt have enough cash at hand).

Have a talk with your bank...

Thanks everyone for this useful info.
SmartCard, unfortunately that URL didn't work.

(Re Western Union: I too found the fee to be inordinately high.)
