What shopping cart software should I use?

I am looking for a shopping cart software package that I can “drop in” to an existing static site. I need very basic functions. I looked at Mal’s e commerce and it does everything I need but lacks the ability to edit some of the check out pages. I would like a Mal’s type system that gives more design flexibility, and preferably, something that I could own.

works fine for us for over 2 years and has a great support forum(if you need it!)

litecommerce is the only cart that I know which can act like Mal's but is hosted on your server.
