Promotion of potentially politically incorrect site

We have a site proposed to us for development and promotion that, well, the domain name is politically incorrect. Although the phrase used isn't intended to be insulting, I know that some people will take issue.

Is this something that anyone has faced before? Is "a job just a job?"

The client is fine with it. I - on the other hand - am flinching. I am a bit worried about "guilt by association". What's some thoughts?

Don't put your name, or your company on their website. Don't put their name or company on your website. Leave no trail. That's good advice regardless of the site you are working on.

I keep three main contacts available. 1) a show case client site to show to potentials. 2) a contact site for references, and 3) usually one with abnormally high rankings. After that, the client list is a#1 confidential.

I agree with that. We are usually so focused on building a portfolio that it doesn't seem obvious to "distance ourselves" from a project - yet work on it.

The three contact approach certainly seems to have the structure that would uncomplicate the process of bidding new contracts. That is a fine approach - Thanks Brett.
