Hi everyone,

Going to start a site soon and until now I've done everything as an affiliate, but now I'm jumping into selling the products online myself. My question is, what's the best product catalog system that I can use that while being dynamic, will also be spider and SEO friendly? I'd like to be able to customize it as much as possible. Would I maybe have to do a mod_rewrite to make the urls crawler friendly?

Thanks for any info, I appreciate it!

Your best bet is to use a cart which generates static html copies of your dynamic pages, with product titles inserted into the url of the page.

If you then run your site off the static catalog, it will reduce your server load as well and make the site runs much faster.

Three low cost scripts can do this, litecommerce, x-cart and Jshop Server.

It is probably possible to get a module for OS Commerce and Miva Merchant.

Miva is a literal nightmare. I've had to work on sites for former clients with Miva and I'll never touch one ever again.

I know there are people who like it, but the way around is to create separate static pages which is usually OK for the major keywords because there's full control but how many can you do?

Google handles dynamic pages pretty well, though you lose a lot of SEO benefit within the site - but not so Yahoo - better check top 20 results for a number of searches and see what you find up there before making any decisions.

You need somthing that makes dynamic pages look like static pages. I know this is possible with Interchange.
