choosing gateway service provider

Hi, we currently have merchant account with FDMS North /Cardnet/ and use itransact.com as our gateway service provider, we want to change our gateway service3 due to some incompatibility between itransact's and FDMS North software resulting in our account not settling correctly.

1) does anybosy have a clue why this may happen? will changing gateway service provider help or we rather get a merchant account with another FDMS platform?

2) can anybody suggest which gateway service provider is the best option? We need the most flexible solution (we accept cc info on our side and use custom shopping card software and databases) and good customer support.
