Secure Certs

I am starting a new site where I will have to take CC information and an online order form that will have sensitive information. Most of my competitors in the industry have Verisign seals. However, I've noticed Verisigns prices are much higher than a lot of other places. Is Verisign better for some reason (we are talking B2B site). I have no problem paying the extra if there is a reason. I just can't figure out if there is one or if my competitors simply like paying more ;).

Not from a technical perspective. Your data will not be less encrypted without a Verisign cert. Mostly I think it is an issue of authority, in that Verisign is trusted as an authorizer of certs more than say InstantSSL. Personally, I didn't see the value in paying more money for a Verisign or Thawte cert.

the only two I ever consider are verisign or thawte, though I have personally only ever used thawte.

I've used some of the lower budget SSL Certs but the only two I recognize and trust at face-value are Thawte and Verisign. I think they are the most common brand names in the SSL industry. So if name, does not matter - save a few bucks - but if you can afford the extra - the brand-name does add a little more shine to your credibility IMHO.

Thanks guys. Well, money that doesn't "need" to be spent always matters ;) - but, due to the nature of this website, I think the name brand will matter and is probably why my competitors are all using them. So, I see this is an amount that "needs" to be spent. ;) Much appreciated.
