Common methods used to find a nitch?

I am trying to break into affiliate marketing. I make site after site and there is little to no traffic. I use **** to try and find a niche but everything is completly saturated. What techniques does one use to find a niche of their own?

Typically, picking something you like and already know something about seems to work best.
