I have been receiving at least 1 and up to 5 attempts to purchase from us from Nigeria every single day. Sometimes the credit card info gets through and most other times they don't. Those theives in nigeria are more than just being annoying now.

If your transactions are from IP that starts with 80.88.x.x, be VERY CAUTIOUS.

Block the ip ranges.

That's just what I thought to myself a little while back so I did just that. Needn't have bothered. Just this morning for example I learnt to my surprise that Nigeria is in fact in Denmark. Indonesia has also been cropping up in some very strange locations since I also removed it from my shipping list (it's been in Singapore all week...). They just don't give up.

The sales that come from Nigeria are always disguised as a normal order from another country. They seem to have a list of credit card info too. Usually they would try 5 to 10 attempts on a given day with different credit card and personal info, all from 1 IP.

On the products that are most valuable and appealing to crooks, we require that orders for more than two items be placed by phone. Large quantities of those products can not be entered online. Other than by Internet Relay, we almost never get Nigerian or Indonesian orders by voice phone. The one time that happened, I asked for his phone number so I could call him back, and he gave me a non-existent number.

Nigerian's focus on just a few products and they almost always order them in huge quantities. We virtually NEVER get orders for just one product from Nigeria.

It's beyond me why anyone has Nigeria and Indonesia in their ship-to databases (those lists also invariably include many uninhabited islands). Jeesh!

I know what you mean but removing those countries from your database, in my experience anyway, doesn't actually stop them placing orders for delivery to those countries. Take this morning's latest rather laughable attempt - he gives a full Nigerian address and then selects Denmark from the drop-down countries list. They'll just keep on trying however many countries you remove.

We use geoip package and completly block any IP that returns 'Nigeria'. Works really well to keep them away. While you are at it, block other high risk countries. Ask your merchant bank, they will give you a list of countries to block.
