Today (Friday June 25th) was quite slow. Did your sales drop today too or were things normal?

Interesting...maybe my theory of the virus news today scaring customers away did not have as much of an impact as I once thought...

Do you think it was the result of the virus news today or something else? Were you down a lot more than usual or just down a bit?

Yeah, that virus was evil. Interestingly enough, all the news sites I saw downplayed it..

Basic pattern:

Rain comes out, sales go up, sun come out, sales go down.

Fortunately I live in England LOL :D

I sell wholesale shiny sterling silver widgets. It's the low end of the precious metal widget price spectrum, popular with beach-goers, students on holiday, tourists, etc.
Summer is usually a strong season. My sales are wretched, and I'm #1 in the SERPS...
I called a colleague, a big fish, to compare notes. He told me his biggest customer usually buys more in a single day than he's bought during the entire month of June. My friend hardly shows up at the office anymore, because there's nothing to show up for. He's thinking of laying off employees. He's losing sleep.

Vote Kerry!

... so I'm not alone. Sales down 50% this month so far compared to last month.

As I'm mainly in men's stuffs, 2 possible reasons :

1. Summer holidays

2. Euro 2004 fever

Looking forward to a strong rebound in July but with the Olympics in August, not sure how it will turn out.

My sales is down about 60% also. It is a pretty sad month. This Friday and Saturday were pretty dead also.

We are spending most of our efforts in upgrading our site. Hopefully it will turn out better.

Our sales are 22% up on last month :)

But this month we have seen a lot of returning customers - probably due to things we put into practice 2 months ago.

1) Give a promotional gift away with each order (costs us 25p an order)

2) Restructuring of product categories; splitting them into sub-categories

3) Follow up email a week after the customer places an order asking them if everything is okay

We've seen a fairly significant traffic slowdown since the virus issue (about a 25% dropoff from normal levels). Anyone seeing a pickup this morning, or is it still slow?

Yes, we do quite well Mon - Wed. Drops a bit Thur and Friday. Dead Saturday and most of Sunday. Sunday night picks up again and then booms Monday morning! I guess more people shop during working hours.
