I am building a clothing website and ambased in the US. But the website is designed mostly for French customers.

WHat CC processing company would offer the best protection over fraudulent payments and an integration of different currencies?

I use TMS/Authnet and am relatively pleased. The transaction fees are in line with what I could get other places and the monthly "statement" and "gateway" fees aren't too bad. I selected this company primarily b/c I wanted to write my own interface so that the customer never leaves my site. I didn't like sending a customer to another hosted transaction site for processing. I'm also able to closely track the entire purchase process - which allows me to tweak the site to make it easier to buy.

My vote goes to Worldpay, their fraud protection is absolutely first class. Besides, if you are worried, you can pay 1% extra for protection against chargeback

Worldpay might be a bit expensive for you since you are based in the US.

I would suggest possibly a regular US merchant account then you might see about integrating callcustomer into your system

Is there anything that doesn't require a merchant account? I need something that can protect me from fraudulent users in France. Not too expense as I am starting and have no idea of my volume sale every month.

2CO works for me, i've never sold to france but I have succesful sales to Ireland, UK, switzerland, and Canada. Canada is kinda like france... They have pretty good fraud protection as well.

If you're looking for fraud protection, the best choice would be Lateral Payment Solutions (LPS). They are the Mastercard/VISA processor used by most of the Poker sites and have a ton of fraud screening in place to reduce charge-backs.

Of course if you want to COMPLETELY eliminate Chargebacks go with NETeller or Pre-Paid ATM. Users can fund their NETeller/PPATM accounts with a credit card, checking account, whatever and they both have 100% no charge-back guarantees.

Well first you need to ask yourself - what type of chargebacks do you expect? Fraudulent credit cards, stolen credit cards, items were not received, customers not happy with the product?

One thing - there are some services out there that will also call the customer just to verify the phone number. A lot harder in some places to get a new number than a new e-mail address.
