Why do processor do name verification?

It seems like it would be logical

Ok, I'm not new to the whole CC charging thing, but I have yet to understand that if we can address verify (at least in the US) and CVV code verify credit cards, why don't they ever do name verification? It's a no brainer!

Anyone really know why this is?

Actually when the address is verified, it only uses the numbers (the street number & the ZIP code). This is much easier for the computers. And plus it helps to possibly also reduce mistakes - in case someone misspells their name or something.

So if you put in that you live at 1234 Main St, Anywhere, CA, 91316 - the gateway pulls 1234 and 91316 to make sure it verifies against what is on record with the issuing bank.
