Was wondering what you think about charging a monthly fee vs. a yearly fee for a fee based website?

Offer both if you can. I think some people would be more apt to pay "ONLY $4.99/month," but other people would go for "$50/year - Almost TWO MONTHS FREE!"
Some would automatically be drawn to the smaller number, and others would be drawn to the greater value...

Yeah I agree with Minvox... and would like to add one thing.... The willingess to sign up for the long haul is going to greatly depend on the type of content that you provide...

I just switched to monthly billing at the beginning of 2002 after 4 years of annual ad billing. The primary problem I was having was that they just forgot they were in the program. The second problem was that contacts tended to change over the year and I wasn't being notified. Of those that we've converted, about 10% have asked for quarterly billing and one or two have asked to prepay for the entire year.

Thanks for the response. Good advice for somebody just venturing into the ecommerce world.
Can ask what merchant service you all use? And what you think of it?
