Hello everyone!
Thanks to the help of some very kind people here, I have discovered that my website was not optimised as well as it could have been. One thing in particular is the fact there are no title tags on the links (does that make sense? I know very little about these things). Can anyone tell me how to edit the title tags on the links within Yahoo! Store, or if it can even be done? Thanks so much!

Jennifer, the only way to really optimize a Yahoo! Store is to understand RTML. RTML is the templating language used when developing a Yahoo! Store.

As for adding title tags to links, there are numerous different places in the standard YS templates that would need to be changed.

Are you talking Yahoo! Stores or Merchant Solutions?

Could you be more specific about what you mean? I'm a bit confused. Do you mean the fact that the titles of the items are rendered as images rather than text?

I'm talking about Yahoo stores, as I did not sign up for merchant solutions. I am sorry if this is confusing, but a webmaster who is not too familiar with Yahoo stores found what was wrong with the site, but was not sure how to edit title tags within the yahoo editor, so he suggested I post the question here.I hope that makes more sense. Thanks!

I took a peek at JenniferL's website and noted that the links do not have title tags. Alt tags seem to be in place on the images but the links were missing title tags.

I suggested she post here thinking someone who knows the Yahoo store interface (I've never worked with it) might be able to tell her if there's a way to simply add the title tags or not.

I'd also be curious to learn if the template can be modified such that it could include the DOCTYPE definition as her site does not.

Other SEO tips for working with the Yahoo store?

Yes. It is a simple RTML fix. If you know RTML (Yahoo! proprietary language), it won't take too long.

If you don't know RTML - you will have to hire someone to do it for you.

The templates are infinitely modifiable, but RTML is a new language to learn, and only used by Yahoo! Stores. You can do anything.

I stickied a suggestion for where Jennifer can find a little more info on this subject, and there are two pretty good RTML books out there as well. If anyone needs info on them, sticky me.

Oh please don't get me started about DOCTYPES w/ Y!Stores. Unfortunately, you can not edit anything above the HTML tag. I'm currently switching my Y!Store to a CSS-P layout, and it is a PIMA working w/ all the browsers' different quirk modes.

As far as SEO tips for the basic Y!Store templates. The starting point is switching the page titles to text. A must in my opinion. I haven't really worked w/ the standard templates in years, so that's about all I remember. To really optimize a site, you have to move towards custom templates.

JenniferL..

Personally, i wouldn't waste your time on this. I don't think Google pays attention to the title tags inside a link.

Am I wrong? Anyone care to comment?

"Other SEO tips for working with the Yahoo store? "

One of the nice things about a Ystore is the unlimited bandwidth and storage space without having to have your own server. Use it to your advantage if you can. This doesn't apply to Merchant Solutions though. My biggest dislike with Ystore is not being able to FTP. You can FTP with Merchant Solutions, but they limit the bandwidth and storage space.

Promote as you would anything else. Lots of quality content and lots of quality on-topic incoming links.

Anyone know the impact of closing the body tag, reopening the head tag, adding stuff, and then closing the head tag and reopening the body tag? Does the head tag stuff all necessarily have to be at the top of the page?

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. I found help for my situation at YStore forums and the problems will be fixed. Thanks again!
