is netbank.com a real bank?

I opened a checking account with netbank.com and got approved.(account yet to be funded).

Did anybody hear of this bank before?
Does anybody knows if is a legitimate bank?

You can find out about any bank that is FDIC insured at the FDIC: [www2.fdic.gov...]

They have some information there on Netbank.

They're FDIC-insured, publicly traded, and regulated by the OCC.

It is actually illegal to have 'bank' in your name unless you are a real bank.

I think some companies will get around this by calling themselves a 'banc'.

I wouldn't rely on that though. If the company is based internationally that would be very easy to get around!

I've been using NetBank for years. Never a problem and I order their postage-paid deposit envelopes from a browser. They're based in Atlanta, GA. They are a real bricks & mortar, but no personal banking storefront.

I tried - unsuccessfully - to open an account with umbrellabank . com cause I didn't have the ID to satisfy their requirements - they don't take passports. They are an online bank with nice account - no interest checking - $100 min deposit and you get a Visa Check card.
