PayPal’s revenue increase includes a 49% year-to-year rise in revenue from payment transactions processed for merchants other than eBay.com, a spokeswoman says. PayPal now provides payment services for more than 1 million merchants worldwide, the company reports.

If PayPal can change their set up, to have it so that people don't have to join before paying then I think it would be a great service.
I personaly don't think they will change that part because it helps with stolen credit cards purchases.
There's my two cents worth.
When I see the PayPal symbol, I think of "merchants" working out of the back of their pickup and I pass.
I'm a lot more comfortable shopping online with the protection of a major credit card.
I use PayPal on my site and often recommend it to the small/home business startups I work with. There are a few problems, namely:
I would love to see PayPal become more mainstream.
Custom shopping cards still require a lot of info. Plus they are all different in design and features.
The BEST thing is the 1.5% rebate on fees if you buy things with your paypal debit card. We purchase all kinds of materials, thus we net out at a .8% charge plus .30 cents. Way cheaper than any bank charges for discount fees..
Our average ticket is $40 so the discount would be .62 cents
or about 1.6%. Good luck beating 1.6%.
I actually trust PayPal over direct cards in some cases because the PayPal records will reveil a little more about the vendor.
If a customer purchases from me and returns an item, I refund the purchase price, but not shipping. With PayPal, you either refund all or nothing, unless you go through some strange complaint procedure.
Even worse is if a customer orders two items and decides to keep one and send the other back. Without the ability to refund, you have to send them funds the normal PayPal way, which means they get a discount fee applied to the transaction.
If you don't gross them up, they tend to get upset.
I tried to sign up with PayPal once. Can't remember the details but it was an absolute disaster. I finally gave up.

mayor, you stole my post. 100% agree. Didnt join the Supporters Forum for awhile because all I saw at first was PayPal.
After a major battle with ID theft, its only a credit card (and no branded debit cards) for me.
