Accepting payments from foreign online bank systems

Hi, I want to accept payments for software I will be selling but I don't want to have an online payment system as I can see it looks rather costly if I go with a merchant account or setup it myself directly with the bank, the bank fees are too high. I was thinking upon ordering of the software I could send my Australian bank account details and the users could pay through their online banks. What do people think of this? All I have to send to the purchaser is my bank branch number and account number? Are foreign bank accounts able to send my australian bank account with just that information or do I need to send them other information also?

if the merchant account cost is your main problem of accepting money on line so you may be thinking to use a 3rd party service like 2checkout or Ibill or it's another solution dedicated to software developers which is using a middleware company like shareit.com or regsoft.net .

I think shareit would do a good job.
what about my case? selling a single item for 20 USD but really don't know how to setup payments. for now i work with checks, but is very inconvenient. today I looked at about 10 different offers in the web and am more and more confused. there is no good option for those selling small quantities at low prices.

But what do people think about sending my bank account details to the purchaser along with a key so that they can send the money through their own online bank? Is this a good idea or not? I won't be getting thousands of customers so checking my own bank for their payments manually is no problem.

I think you could lose a lot of customers this way. People want to be able to enter in their credit card and order it now, not mess around with your bank details and figuring out how to do it through their own bank. I wouldn't order if this was the only way of paying for it simply due to the added hassle.

I would definitely think about setting up with a third party processor, even PayPal would suit what you need.

Online people want to order now and worry later, they will not be interested in having to get your details and take them to their bank and then probably pay for an international draft or something.

2CheckOut, PaySystems, Authorize, PayPal, Kagi are all options - any of them make a better choice for your needs.

Thanks for the replies I think I'll have to find some sort of cheap merchant account otherwise I will loose customers as mentioned. I don't recommend paypal to anyone as I have used them and I am currently in the process of trying to get my money out of there but they refuse to reply to my emails and faxes. After searching for help on net the about paypal I've discovered hundreds of other people have had problems similar to mine. DON'T USE PAYPAL THEY WILL TAKE ALL YOUR MONEY EVENTUALLY.

There are a number of systems now that allow people to pay by Email. Certainly Yahoo and HSBC have got together with one, which (knowing HSBC) is pretty global in nature.
