Can anyone point me in the direction of how to implement an online catalog on your website.

A static HTML one or a dynamic database driven one?

It's a broad topic - if you are not a programmer, you may want to start with a package solution like the free osCommerce:

oscommerce.com/

i had an research about this before and i found that the open source Oscommerce is good and if you want to pay so I recommend either Comersus or EarlyImpact
And if you don’t have the ability to host and setup the cart yourself so you may find Monstercommerce cart helpful
