paypal fees question

way back when I registered for paypal for the premier account (where you can take CCs) I think the going rate was like 2.5% for receiving money, plus an additional 2%-3% or so if the payment was made with a credit card - this made it a whopping almost 6% out of your payments. Expensive!

Looking at the Fees section on their website, I see no mention of this anymore - has this changed?

Their fee structure for Premier accounts is now:
2.9%+ $0.30 USD ....?

The fees were never as you described. As published at paypal.com, the fees are 2.2-2.9% + $0.30. Payments between countries have an additional 1% charge.

I don't know if they still do this but if you have the pay pal debit card they give you back like 1.5% or something like that if you use it as a visa to get your money out.

Yeah that's the info I got from their website.

But I could have sworn that at one point paypal charged their regular fees for receiving money PLUS credit card fees. I mean, that's the whole reason why myself and others would have ebay auctions taking paypal only 'from bank or paypal funds'. It wasn't because of the risk of charge back, but because of the exorbitant fees...

I used to take it 2 years ago and had a very good rate when I was using the PP visa/debit card for my cc charges. I think I was only paying 2 something after all was said and done. You really have to take PP on Ebay. I won't buy from somebody that does not take Pay Pal. As far as I'm concerened I if you don't take Pay Pal there is something wrong with you and I really don't want to do business with somebody that does not know what they are doing. No PP on Ebay is a big red flag to me.

pbret is correct. I've never seen fees scheduled as you've mentioned rfung.

I wouldn't consider the fees exorbitant - what are you comparing the fees to? Only other alternative less expensive than Paypal is money order/checks, and possibly merchant accounts.

The reason most of the people who say no credit-card funded Paypal in their eBay auctions is that they have a personal account--and you need a Premier/business account to accept credit-card funded Paypal payments. [They want to use a personal account because there are no fees for receiving money]. There used to be a different fee for credit card funded payments vs other payments for Premier/business accounts--but it was much less than what you mentioned.
