In this article, we look at how three very different companies are using the Web to handle three of the most vital business functions--supply-chain management, customer communication, and, of course, sales. Their experiences provide a good idea of the care and feeding required by Web efforts that have ceased to be mere decoration and have become, instead, load-bearing walls.

This article is a nice overview of the different types of businesses who use the internet to increase business or productivity.

The third company discussed probably is the closest to what most of us deal with.

"I grew up thinking that you have to have a walk-in business," says Peter Monticup. "Then I came to my senses."

But there is nothing bargain-basement-ish about MagicTricks.com's appearance

Is it just me, or is the author of that article design-challenged?

With gaudy colors, almost 60k of HTML to provide an appropriately long download time... is it just me or does this site really look like some bargain-basement design?

Well, the stuff being sold is not serious anyway and so there is nothing wrong with being gaudy.

Must admire them for getting all 1350 pages in handwritten html. However if you have got the time, it will you a lot of good with respect to search engine rankings.
