Enrollment Form: Single or Multi Page?

Should a site build a multi page or single page enrollment form

I am not web savy, but can anyone tell me what, if any, advantages there are to building an enrollment form on multiple pages versus building it on a single page (though it appears as multiple pages to the user)?
Right now all I can think of measuring abandonment rates and different level easier.
Will it take longer load times for a multi page enrollment form?

Thanks for any advice.

Wendi,

Firstly, welcome to Webmasterworld.

On your single / multi page question, a single page will take longer to download, and its length may well put off potential susbscribers (especially as a single page form might give the false impression that ALL of the information is required). Of course, if all the info IS required that may be no bad thing, as it would act as a selector for those who really WANT your products / services

If you are more interested in building a larger list, then a multipage layout, with clear notices on what is required, and clearly marked "go to content HERE" links will likely perform better.
