Hi,

I have an online store that generates quite a bit of sales. All pages are in html. However it's hard to maintain and I find it's outdated and limited.

I am looking to upgrade my e-commerce system to something new and more powerful. I see that there are lots of solutions but I don't know what to choose; asp, php, aspx, cfm etc... Should I choose a software already existing (which one is the best?) or should I have a good programmer build a customised one (what kind?)

Is there anybody with experience in this field who can give me an advice where to go, what to look for etc...(money it's not a problem)

Basically I want to start on the right foot with the best system available these days.

Thanks for your help.

Hello :)

I'm sure someone will come along shortly with a more in-depth answer, but in the meantime you may want to have a look at this post.

I prefer to write my own in HTML. You have a far greater controlover webpages etc and search engine opti.

However you might like to take a look at oscommerce its free and very powerful.

Right now I'd choose Interchange. It offers reliability, maturatiy and flexibility.

I don't know of a more robust, complete solution.

Best of all, like OScommerce it's free! This means that you can spend the money you have for software on customisation and cool features.

I should also mention that it's search engine friendly - all pages can be indexed by Google!

Stick me if you wnat to discuss Interchange further.

I am in the same position with regards to having websites coded entirely in html. My main concern is that all the pages are ranked highly in Google and generates more than a thousand unique visitors a day. Therefore I wanted a shopping cart that will integrate readily into my site. Another criteria was that pages generated by the cart must be search engine friendly. In the end, it came down to a few choices.

OS Commerce - this is very impressive, but I found it too difficult to handle and do not like the thought of having no support.

Cubecart - this was the easiest cart I have tried to date, the only thing holding me back was that it requires all customers to become members in order to buy.

x-cart - this has even more features than OS Commerce and does have support. Despite it being a Russian company, the level of English of some of their support staff is very good.

However, it would be very difficult to modify its appearance.

litecommerce - this is made by the same company as x-cart. One important feature is that you can add hyperlinks to this cart from the buy buttons on your existing site. It will add the items to the cart in the usual manner without having first to redirect you to another page. Therefore, this cart will be by far the easiest to integrate into my existing site.

Therefore, I will probably go for litecommerce in the end.
