a rather thorough analysis by a Harvard law student on the activity and techniques used by one individual, "John Zuccarini", who apparently owns more than 5500 domains, solely based on the fact they are typos for more commonly used sites:

[cyber.law.harvard.edu...]

Although the majority of these domain names are variations of sites frequently used by children, and although their domain names do not suggest the presence of sexually-explicit content, more than 89% offer extensive sexually-explicit content. In addition, these domains are presented in a way that temporarily disables a browser's Back and Exit commands, preventing users from exiting easily.

sorry if it's a dupe, I couldn't find Zuccarini via the site search or via google for webmasterworld

of course Saeid Yomtobian (xupiter) tops him easily with nearly 80,000 domains
