I'm not sure what a visa electron is JonB. Is it like a debit card?

I don't think you can uses an electron for any cardholder not present transactions, its to do with the CC company not the supplier.

I think you should be fine with it, you will know directly when you try.

Looks like it is a debit card. I have an electronic terminal and it processes both credit cards and debit cards. Can't see the harm in trying. The worst that can happen is a rejection.

<added> My processing company requires certain info for verification for credit or debit cards. Once that hurdle is crossed, transaction proceeds as normal. </added>

NFFC is spot on... you can't use this form of debit card to process a transaction without a signiture.

mack,i am not sure if i undertand..there is a signature on my visa electron. i thought it is jsut a debit card like many american ones - i think my friend he uses sort of debit card to pay on the net..

also this company says they accept visa electron:

[xreg.co.uk...]

do you mean that when purchasing from someone he has to READ my signature by "eyes" or by "machine"? can you explain more and and also what does then above company mean when they say they accept visa electron?

In my job I take payments over the phone and we canot accept electron payments because we need you to sign the print out and compare it to the signiture on your card.

Online this is not possible.

added on the page you showed me I think they have simply taken the text from the world pay sit. Worls pay will accept electrom but only with face to face sale. not web sales.
I belive World pay also offer PDQ services.

you CAN use electron on the web. look for a uk domain registrar that uses worldpay. worldpay have only recently added electron to the list of cards that can be accepted and each existing merchant needs to request it to be added to their account, so you won't find many domain registrars that accept it just yet. if you get stuck, sticky me and i'll find you a site or 3.

crazy _fool and everybody thanks. :) ODD thing i replied yesterda but today i dont see my psot so i'll psot again ther latest:

1.i didnt actually try it yet (have to put funds on card on monday)
2.at goddady they told my friend that "aynthing with visa logo" can be used.Same was told to me at some other domain registrar that i am even affilaite! (but in both cases i have a little doubt that they know what exaclty is visa electron)
3.that FIRSt link on my first post mentions that it can be used to pay online.
4.i checked varous newsgroups nad ther is very contradictory info - some are "sure" that it doesnt go, some are "sure" it goes.
3.this is what i received (reply came 30 minutes after inquiry and atr 23 PM!).below are my questio nand their reply.compay is web hsoting company i mentioned above:

-------------
Hello,

> on your site you say i can pay with visa electron.
> how is this done? i will jsut type in my visa electron number like with normal visa? i am from slovenia. can you explain me more how is the visa electron payment arranged? do we have to meet face to face? or can i jsut pay online with my visa electron?
--------------

answer came in form of something liek this:

They told me that Yes, they can accept your Visa Electron like any other credit/debit card through their secure payment gateway. i jsut must Make sure that i use the "Credit/Debit Card" payment option on the funds page of my control panel.
--------------------

i think that they accept it ."secure payment gateway" means just SSL secure order or somenthing like this?

everything very confusing :) like here i got very contradictory info on everyhwere i loeked and asked.

next week i will try and then report here.thanks again...i'll sticky you if two of my "first choice" domain regisrant fail.thanks again everybody.

some are "sure" that it doesnt go, some are "sure" it goes.

Well, you can ask someone who's sure that it works online for the places it is used and if they share with you, you can check it out for yourself.

BTW, is this the case with Maestro too?

web_india, i know i could ask and ask...i read on net and was confused about so much different info, then i asked here and here seems to be the same :) as i said i just have to wait until next week then i will try it.(in the meantime i asked here)before i discovered this on the web i was not even aware that i could use my visa electron.

Actually, the confusion is greater because Visa have named it Electron. Now if it's electron, it should be accepted electronically, right? :)

Cant you just send them a cheq? or what about a Postal Order?

I run a mail order company and we do not take Electron, if a customer tries to pay with one I either ask them to send a Postal Order or a Cheq, if it is a large amount then they do a Bank transfer.

:)

the confusion about whether or not you can use electron on the web is because the rules and uses vary from country to country. in some countries it is issued as a credit card and can be used like one. in other countries it is issued asa debit card and can be used like one. it can also be issued as a "pre-paid" card. more info at www.visa.com

curlykarl: i used to send western union to my friend in usa so he paid for me. i can do all things but the are not practical - when i see some doamin qucik or i want to buy something i msut wait that he is online.he is always fast but i dont want to make him "troubles" all the time. and provision on WU is like 10% or so!

my visa electron is debit card i think - i put money on my visa account and i can spend as long as i have some money on this account.

india, well, that is what i meant - whats the point of naming it electron if you cant use it electronicaly :)

>>my visa electron is debit card i think - i put money on
>>my visa account and i can spend as long as i have some
>>money on this account.

that sounds like a "pre-paid" card. i *think* maestro is the same.
