I have searched for apps that would add me in creating subdomains to my existing domain name. EXAMPLE:
A domain called [homepage.com...I...] want to allow
others to reg. and create their own subdomain pages. Which would become [MrBill.homepage.com...] etc.

How is this accomplished? I need the ability to do this for a small community. So it feasible there may be hundreds of subdomains.

Thanks for any imput...DLM

Welcome to the board. You have to have this done at the host level. They add an entry to your local dns info on the host. It generally involves a level of guru'ness few hosts turn over to users. Most hosts will be different in their 3rd level domain policies.

True but one of our host allows 5 subs free and has a place in the admin panel for the webmaster to add them without bothering the host.

If hundreds of subdomains is a real possibility, I'd think about a dedicated server and direct control of your own DNS. It's more work, but it gets around hosting companies wanting to charge you for subdomains.

Of course, this is coming from someone who is already doing those things for other reasons, and is very comfortable with systems administration. If you don't feel confident in setting up the DNS and virtual hosting for sub-domains, it might be worth the money that a hosting company charges.

I run my own DNS and I'll never go back to using someone else's.

Nor I! I'm a control freak when it comes to my domains.
