I have a client who wants to advertise his services in Australia’s and New Zealand’s search services, but when I go to submit his site to the above countries search engines they all indicate that they only want country specific urls entered into their databases i.e. au.con and co.nz.

If I acquire those country specific urls i.e. www.myclient.au.com/conz and point them to his IP address, will this have detrimental affect on the search engine listings he’s already got in all the major UK search services if I was to promote those urls in the respective countries search services?

I've done this many times and I've never had any problems at all.

By law, you have to be an Australian registered business to own a .com.au name. Read about the policy here (pdf) [melbourneit.com.au].
