Dot name delay

It was sixth months late, wasn't it.?

When I took Register.com up on a ".name" domain registration early in January 2002, I was under the impression that it would be live in a matter of weeks, not six months!

I'm pretty annoyed about the fact that I was paying for a service all that time and getting nothing (other than the email address) in return.

Do I have a case for complaint?

Thanks,

Mark

What happened meadboy?

You bought the name in January, but then what happened? Did you just get DNS control, or did they just register the domain?

Well, for the first six months my .name domain was simply forwarded to a Register.com "Coming Soon..." page. They claim that the delay was with the domain registry people. Does this sound plausible?

Surely, I'm not the only person who feels a bit cheated by all this...?

If the name was forwarded to a register.com holding page, then that is proof that the domain was actually registered and resolving.

All that needs to be done at that point is to change the DNS to your host's servers, wait 24 - 48 hours for propagation and then you're live!

i had exactly the same with another company - it looks like those of us that registered the .name in january 2002 did have to wait 6 months or more before we could use our names, while those who registered in summer 2002 were able to use their names straight away.

can we complain? sure we can.
will it do us any good? probably not.
who would we complain to? probably best to find a brick wall ....
