I have my own dedicated server at RackShack. I was wondering if it's possible to rent my own DNS server at some place to point to my dedicated server at the hosting company. In other words, I would like to seperate DNS server from the current hosting company. Is this possible?

Thanks!

Yes, you can get outsourced DNS. Companies like UltraDNS do this. Or you can setup your own name servers on your dedicated server.

Sure, all the final dns resolve does is point at the final ip (most feel it is faster for the visitors to have that dns server at your host).

We're doing this at the moment with no real problem. Should be fine..

all the final dns resolve does is point at the final ip

or sub-dir if using multi-homed hosting service.
