Hey-

This is the first time that I've had to do this, I was hoping someone could decipher some cloudy areas for me.

I want to take a domain originally registered through another company, and point it towards my hosts DNS. I don't think that the domain has been released yet from the company that holds it.

Do I just need to get a hold of the technical contact for the company that holds the domain and have them talk to InterNIC? What is the most streamlined process in this case...

I do appreciate any input.

I believe it's the admin contact that holds all the cards in this process. With some registrars, he's going to have to sign off on the change and the current registered owner is going to have to send a notarized release. There are some "fast track" transfers, but they can charge a significant chunk of change for this service.

Steel yourself, domain name transfer can be a source of immense frustration.

has the transfer process already been started?

If not, just have them update the DNS entries to your DNS.

If that'll take too long(sometimes it takes days), or your transfer has already been initiated, I'd recommend just having your old host change the IP address their DNS servers point to.

Yaw! I knew it was going to be a battle.

Sorry for the redundancy- I just want to make sure I understand fully in my mind what's happening.

he's going to have to sign off on the change

-The current Admin needs to sign off to the registrar right.

current registered owner is going to have to send a notarized release.

-Who the current Admin registered the domain for. Will have to send a release to the registrar or the InterNIC? The registrar was an outside company.

Thanks

Right. In those I've done, the registrar emailed the admin of record. The admin's reply OK's the process. Remember, there have been plenty of cases where someone fraudulently transfers a valuable domain. Thieves have gone after my big dog domain at least twice now.

>Who the current Admin registered the domain for

Not necessarily. If it's owned by a company and officer or authorized agent of the company will have to sign.
