Apparently ICANN has problems with records listing "Toto" who lives on the "Yellow Brick Road" in "OZ Kansas" and this could be grounds for removing the right to sell domain names.
If ICANN was concerned with predatory marketing practices [news.com.com] something like this probably would have come up sooner. A few inaccurate records seems trivial by comparison.
Somehow, I get the feeling that at least part of the push for this is to crack down on "anonymous" registrations. If so, just wait until they dig into some of the volume-discount registrars.

RC you're undoubtedly correct, but the sense I get from the ICANN page is that the issue is not allowing incorrect information in the first place, it is failing to crack down when they have been notified directly, even repeatedly, about specific domains. It is not, as Verisign suggests, that ICANN found 17 incorrect entires out 10.3 million, but that after asking repeatedly to have the Yellow Brick Road info corrected, Verisign has not taken action in a reasonable amount of time.
Verisign ... routinely ignore reports of inaccurate and incomplete contact data
As a Verisign customer (until I get around to changing), I'm happy to see them get any slap on the wrist they do after constantly extorting me to renew my domain name and sending me false expiration dates 1 year earlier than the one I have in the WhoIs.
