I do not think the topic is geared towards the trademark/cybersquatting angle, personally I think it just goes to show that even the world leaders in domain registration can lose their domain name if not managed properly.
I found it quite funny actually, as did a number of journalists who called me up after hearing about it :)

I understand, I'm just wondering. No problem with this thread going in a new direction, 'cause I don't think it's going anywhere else at the moment.
Aren't there trademark protection laws in the UK that prevent people from using trademarked domains?
Upon payment of a fee of £750 + VAT a complainant can appeal to Nominet and they will appoint a panel member to hear the case. In virtually all cases where a complainant's trademark or common law rights have been infringed the remedy is for the panelist to award a transfer of the domain to the complainant.
With such a hefty payment though to initiate the action many cases are solved by a payment of less than the £750 DRS fee to transfer the domain.
