Domain Name Expired And No Longer Resolving

Is there anything I can do to get site up again straight away?

Name registered with BulkRegister, but purchased via a reseller, who is no longer operating. Is there any way to contact BulkRegister today - I have tried e-mailing, but only automated replies - I'm in the UK and there's no phone number on their site? Failing that is there any other way to get site back on line straight away?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

I had a similar problem only a little worse. We had a group and one member purchased the domain name in her name. She purchased it for a year. She then died and her email account was deleted. we have not been able to get the domain name changed and are waiting for it to expire (in sept) to get it again. The domain registrar would not let us do anything with the domain.

Yes Richard thank you - that sounds quite terrible and your situation is certainly much worse than mine! I am feeling pretty desperate at the moment though, as we've just sent out a load of invites and done some advertising for a show in a few days time, all of which has the web/e-mail address on it. I know it's Sunday, but I am just hating the fact I can't do a thing towards putting this right today.

Gypsychild - As the owner of this board once said, "Never, ever tell anyone a domain name you are having trouble with, except the registrar in question - ever."

I can see what you mean with the above statement, but I really have not got time to be pinching or stealing peoples domains, as explained to GypsyChild via Stickymail.

On another note what makes you think that staff working in domain registrars arent the actual culprits revealing expiry dates and unused domains to brokers such as myself (just a question).

(NEVER trust ANYONE, not even Domain Registrars)

And don't think you were accused of such. That basic rule applies no matter who might be doing the asking.

Thank you Shak for your reply - I really appreciate it.

Mardi Gras also thank you. I'm sure any offer would be with best intention, but this did cross my mind and I think it's such valuable advice - I haven't given out the domain name to anyone. I was hoping for suggestions on how to contact the current registrars myself or ways to get the site up again immediately, again without involving anyone else. I know this is probably just wishful thinking, but I thought I would ask, as it's so important to me right now.

Gypsychild -- If the domain name expired recently and just stopped resolving because it is on "Registrar-Hold" you should still have some time to straighten things out. BulkRegister's practice is to delete names after 15 days on Registrar Hold.

You should email to domainsupport@bulkregister.com instead of any other support address you might have found on their site. They'll try to contact the reseller... in fact their stated practice is that they'll notify you if a reseller goes out of business, but the problem with that is that they might not even know about it, and depending on that defunct reseller's practices your name might not even be listed in any way in connection with your domain name.

As for your questions about getting them to act on it today, Sunday, it's unlikely. And at best I'd expect it to take a couple of days before the name is again resolving. The good news, though, is that as a BulkRegister reseller I've found them to be pretty responsive to this kind of thing.

Phone: 410.234.3309

That in fact is the phone number for BulkRegister. The others, while they may be able to redirect you, are for Alabanza, the related web hosting business.

The correct email address at BulkRegister for domain registration problems of this type is domainsupport@bulkregister.com

JayC and toadhall, thank you for all that info.

I didn't think of looking them up like that for the contact details. I have just tried calling - two numbers are busy and one is no longer working. They say they are busy on other calls, but I'm wondering if it's automated, ie, nobody is there - I'm not sure what these things are like in the US. I'll try again in a moment. Either way at least I have something to start on to tomorrow! Well, tomorrow lunchtime for me, as I'm in the UK.

Unfortunately, I am just past the 15th day after renewal and this is what alerted me, ie, no hits to the site, although the domain name is still showing as registered to me. I e-mailed twice yesterday on that address you gave me JayC, but no human response yet.

At least, I feel I am in with a chance tomorrow with a phone number! Thank you!

Right, I'd assume you are enough past the renewal date to have been placed on Registrar Hold, at which point the domain will no longer resolve while registration data still is in place. Then under BR's policies you have 15 days after that happens before they issue the Delete order, after which the name will become available for anyone to register.

Thanks JayC. I'm hoping I can get hold of someone extra helpful there as soon as they open today and see what they have to say. I am sure renewal reminders must have been sent to the contact e-mail address on the registration details and unfortunately, I was trusting them to let me know when renewal was due. Anyway, it's been a very long 48 hours!

OK, I've spoken to BulkRegister and everything has been sorted out. My site will be back up later today and I'm so happy! A valuable lesson learnt for me and a big thank you to everyone for all the good advice and offers of help.
