Your browser must correct the ,com with .com
what browser are you running???

I know it is possible on some brosers to simply type www.ebay and it will search for
www.ebay.com
www.ebay.net
www.ebay.org etc etc

but it is not possible to set up dns records for a domain using ,com

I believe what might be happening is AOL is playing with you. AOL is your ISP. They must see you want Ebay so they are redirecting you to their own personal ebay where they get a kick back. Looks like a large corporation may be using DNS errors.
