good domain host and registra ?

help me out a little.

Ive registered a few domains but im looking for a good site that will register and host my domain for a resonable amount of cash and simple uploading capablilitys, Not much to ask. who do you thinks best ?

why do you want to pay for this ? Unless you've got over 50mb to upload why not use one of the free ISP hosts. most offer 10-15mb which translates into a lot of pages.

OK, so the address wont be as nice as your personal domain, but unless poeple can remember a personal or company name,and use it to guess your address, why does this matter?

The Domain names you've bought should already be registered as part of the price ?

Even commercial sites can operate with this approach, with no reg or hosting costs

the biggest reason to get your own hosting is so you can have individual, unique IP addresses for each of you sites. Setting up on a free service can work but you are only getting virtual hosting (sharing an IP with many others). Under this scenario if one of the other people on the IP spam an SE and get the IP banned you will be dropped from the listing as well and will have to move your site and start over.

If anybody is looking for a decent host you could try pair Networks [pair.com]. You can park as many domains as you like on one account and they are still handing out seperate IPs for each domain. (I have one account with 20 domains on it for less than $30 US per month - I am not affiliated with them)

littlewebwizard, I've been using www.000domains.com for 13.50 with no problems, but don't use their hosting. I've been using www.linuxwebhost.com for $7.95 and half price for any additional domains, with virtually no downtime (according to netwhistle) and no other problems whatsoever that I know of. They were sold a few months ago and greatly improved, especially in tech support response time.

I don't like to make recommendations because everyone's needs are different. I made this choice because of the price and reseller options, and it's been working for my purposes.

I'm going through an awful job of moving a site now from a free host because though it's got decent listings with several search engines, sites at that host are banned from Alta Vista, and the site is very unstable with Google (my sites on paid hosts with unique IP seem to stay put - so far). It's not half as bad if there's a domain name, but moving from subdomain to a domain name means changing loads of links, too. Just my opinion, but it's worth paying 13.50 a year for a domain name for a commercial site.

Sorry everyone but I dont get It. We,ve got good "large" (ha ha) hosts in the UK, (and lots of back up alternatives) offering free hosting

I agree Oilman.. there is a down side as you mention. People love having a personal domain .

Marcia.. I've had a stable no2 slot in Google using my secondary key phrase on a freeserve hosted site for months, so it can work. I agree with your point about moving hosts and the links problem. But if you only have a small site this is less daunting.

[domainavenue.com...] offers free domain webspace and email services for any domain you register there. They wont send you a bill for any other charges either.

pair runs a straight ftp account for $5.95US a month. No bells and whistles but you do get you own domain name.

Well, let's evaluate and compare options.

1. 2.5 meg with a shared IP (URL not found AV either, under search for host:url ) and $35 a year for domain registration. Right back to the shared IP issue, and increased cost if more space is needed - with $35 a year for starters.

2. 13.50 per year for domain registration, and free hosting available with 20 meg and full cgi, ssi, the whole enchilada. Only place excluded is AV, but a nice little informational additional site at freeserve gives the AV traffic.

3. 13.50 per year for domain registration, $36 per year

for 10 meg domain hosting with PERMANENT IP, ftp and subdomains, cgi, the whole enchilada!

4. 13.50 per year for domain registration, with choice of other free domain hosts, AV is the fussiest with banning, check there to see if other sites at that host have listings. If so, it might work for a while. Many free domain hosts are not banned yet.

5. Stay put. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

One additional thought - becareful with those "host finders". Almost everyone I have been too is only setup by some hosting company that promotes there own product. I've yet to find one that isn't real suspect in their recomendations.
