As some of you may know ICANN is getting ready to shoot off the .ORG Registry from NetSol. So they have asked organizations to submit applications to become the new .ORG Registry. Well, the applications are all in and 11 companies have applied.

2 from London
2 from Switzerland
2 from unknown
1 from California
1 from Virginia
1 from Washington DC
1 from Washington State
1 from Switzerland
1 from Belgium

[icann.org...]

It will be interesting how ICANN handles this. Which company will they choose? My money is on the one from my home state of Washington.

Hi,
I strongly feel that the new registrar that succeeds in getting the .org registry will NOT get an added benefit from it..
Most of the .org registrations are via netsol and all netsol clients remaining now are most of them who do not care pricing ( big corporates etc ).
and considering the trend , the first is .com ,
so i feel that .org is infact a burden that icann is offloading from netsol.
So i feel that if the Company from DC gets .org .. take off your money from the company immediately......OOps... sorry for the language... what are your viewss ????

I agree with digitalbrain, I can't see much profit in running the .org registry.

p.s. I had to laugh at the similarity:

The .Org Foundation
The DotOrg Foundation

2.7 Million .ORG domains X $5.50 = $14,850,000 annually
100 Registrar X $2,000 license fee = $200,000 annually
$6 Back-order X 50,000 domains = $300,000 annually

So, $15,350,000 is plenty of money.

For NetSol the .com dictator , Registrations of .com is more than 1000% of .org registrations.
Check out the total Domains Registered

1 .COM 21,336,063 Commercial
2 .DE 5,459,604 Germany / Deutschland
3 .NET 3,631,270 Network
4 .CO.UK 3,080,659 UK Commercial
5 .ORG 2,333,855 Organization

So if ICANN takes off .org from NetSol is'nt it like taking a drop of water from a big big ocean ??

I agree .ORG is a drop in the bucket but the drop makes millions. Owning the bucket which makes Billions. I would not thumb my nose at a few million a year.
